Seed Exchange

Our Community Seed Exchange is Up and Running!!

seed exchange, community projects

“Oh, Mama, our community is hurting and praying isn’t enough, we have to DO something.”

That was the message my sweet daughter delivered to me at the approach of the new year… the pandemic and the homeless crisis dragging on.

So we made a list of things we could do.

And we are knocking them out one by one.

We have always enjoyed the Little Free Libraries around the neighborhood, and have seen a number of fairy gardens springing up around town… and of course the folks who have added swings to their large trees with community access are just the sweetest.  The yarn bombers are tremendous spirit lifters as well!

We decided on a seed exchange for our offering.

Little did we know back in December when we ordered our seed hut from an Etsy artisan in Ukraine – that their country would be under siege.

Yes, our darling seed house with its wonderful craftsmanship and bold colors, was built and painted in Ukraine.

With the help of some neighbors we installed her on Wednesday.

What a success!

I ordered packets of seeds with messages of hope “To Plant a Garden is to Believe in Tomorrow,” “New Beginnings,” “Bee the Change”… children especially with delighted little hands have been carrying them off to grow something precious.

We refilled it yesterday evening and put in an order for more seeds to come today.  A few nearby neighbors have pledged to bring some seeds to share… but with our high foot traffic from people visiting the Santa Monica Stairs… I see that we may need additional help.

So I thought I would reach out to our extended community. We are looking for seed angels! If you would like to contribute seeds please private message me for the address cai[at]rainbow-girls[dot]com.
